Aluminum sulfate is a white rhombic crystalline powder that is widely used in the paper industry and water treatment. What other uses does it have? Aluminum sulfate is an effective cross-linking agent for animal glue, which can improve the viscosity of animal glue. It is also used as a curing agent for urea-formaldehyde adhesives, with fast curing in aqueous solutions.
In the paper industry, aluminum sulfate is used as a precipitant for rosin gum, wax wash and other sizing materials, as a flocculant in water treatment, as an internal retention agent for foam fire extinguishers, as a raw material for the manufacture of alum and aluminum white, and as a raw material for the decoloration and deodorization of petroleum, and for certain medicines. Aluminum sulfate can also produce artificial gemstones and advanced ammonium alum. Products containing arsenic not more than 5mg/kg can be used as water treatment flocculants.
In the paper industry, aluminum sulfate is used as a paper sizing agent to enhance the water resistance and impermeability of paper; used as a purifying agent for turbid water, as well as a precipitant, color-fixing agent, filler and so on. It is used as raw material for cosmetics to suspend sweat cosmetics.
